The areas we hunt fall within the Magaliesburg Biosphere Reserve and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve located in South Africa between the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg. It was proclaimed an international Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO on 9 June 2015, having been recognized for its exceptional natural, cultural, and human characteristics. The reserve includes a variety of landscapes, including slopes, cliffs, crests, kloofs, rivers, wetlands, and valleys. Although the area covers a diverse geological area, it consists mainly of the Magaliesberg mountain complex comprising two geological formations: the Transvaal System and the Bushveld Igneous Complex. The Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve lies at the interface of two great African biomes - the central grassland plateaux and the sub-Saharan savanna - with remnants of a third, Afromontane forest. The biodiversity is matched by its unique human history encompassing a million-year timeline from early hominids through Stone and Iron Age cultures, pre-colonial Tswana tradition, and the South African Wars. In short, it is a priceless encapsulation of South African heritage and landscape and serves as a focal point for national unity and pride, that should be protected and utilized sustainably for the benefit of the biosphere community and for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike .

Natural Abundance

The #ProudToShare campaign by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) aims to share their stories and show how communities are making a difference in Biosphere Reserves. Watch the Magaliesberg's story to find out more.
